Momo Race Lightweight Steering Wheel

Here you will find the tools and items necessary to make a cruise control and horn sub-harness. I want the BAG to be the ONLY option deleted.

The 2 harnesses you see above are the harness going into the clockspring, and coming out of it. Simply put, your cruise controls and horn are wired through your clockspring. I have eliminated the clockspring, so I needed to make this to run the horn and cruise controls to another location.

Cut (or cap off) the yellow and white wires. These are the airbag wires and are no longer needed. Splice the brown, blue, and green wires together with their mate color on the other small harness end. I opted to add 5 feet of wire in between, to make the completed harness about 6 feet long. This will allow me to mount the controls just about anywhere!

This is what my finished harness looks like!

Push-button horn switch. Mounted on switch dead panel. Going to be mounted where the red and white wires are sticking out of my dash in the above pics of the wheel.

Here is a modified cruise control button.

Due to the fact that there is a circuit board in the unit, it can not be changed to just singular push buttons. So I took off the bulky buttons, and cut back the housing so that just the rubbery buttons were accessible.

So this is what the final custom trim piece looks like. Took about 14 hours of work! Messed up the first one.

This is what it looked like BEFORE the trim piece is attached:Here it is, trim attached to the column cover.

Here are a couple of shots after the wheel is back on. The horn button can be seen just beyond the wheel.. (hint: the red button! lol) I wanted black, but couldn’t find any in that shape and size.

And last but not least, we have cruise controls. They aren’t permanently mounted, but the extremely ODD shape of the switch actually helped hold it where it is! lol

So, after relocating the cruise controls to the floor, I was happy to not have lost them. BUT, I wasn’t very happy with the appearance of them right by the door! I knew it was temporary because there was NO WAY I was gonna deal with that uncleanliness!! SO, in the background, I have been working on a lil project.

And so, without further ado, I bring to you Retractable Ashtray Mounted Cruise Controls!

Part Description Part # Price Usage

Heat Shield Bolts 01121-04871 $3.01 These bolts are used to hold on the heat shields for the stock catalytic converter and pre-cat.  Why they are so expensive is a mystery.

Catalytic Converter Bolts 01125-03251 $1.25 Bolts to hold Y-Pipe and B-Pipe to the catalytic converter.  May be threaded with OEM exhaust nuts 11258-D0101.

Pre-Cat Bolts 081B7-0351A $0.75 On CA/NLEV cars like mine, these hold the front pre-cat to the Y-Pipe.  They are very heavy-duty bolts, and I used them in other places due to their length and quality.  May be threaded with OEM exhaust nuts 11258-D0101. .

B-Pipe Underbrace Nuts 08911-1081G $0.33 Used in various places.  Holds B-Pipe underbrace to car.  Also holds B-Pipe exhaust hanger to B-Pipe.

Exhaust Nuts 11258-D0101 $1.05 These nuts are used all over the Maxima exhaust.  Junctions at B-Pipe/Muffler, Y-Pipe/Cat, and Cat/B-Pipe are all joined with these nuts.

Rear Exhaust Manifold Nuts 14094-31U00 $0.82 Being the fanatic that I am, I replaced the rear manifold nuts when I had my Y-Pipe installed.  These nuts will not fit on the front manifold in CA/NLEV cars.

B-Pipe Extension 20031-0L710 $31.00 The infamous OEM B-Pipe extension.  I had to buy this as an interim step when I had the Courtesy B-Pipe installed.  This abomination was removed after KOOKS modded my B-Pipe.

B-Pipe Hanger 20650-52L00 $13.92 I changed out the hanger when the B-Pipe was installed.  It is actually referred to by Nissan as an “insulator” assembly since it mostly damps exhaust vibrations.

Muffler Hangers 20650-9B005 $6.81 If you are changing out the muffler and your hangers are looking ratty, it might not be a bad idea to replace them.  They aren’t expensive, and all of the hangers are the same.  For the rear two hangers you just pop out the interior metal ring.

Muffler Gasket 20691-30P00 $2.92 This ring gasket is used between the stock B-Pipe and the stock muffler.  I found that with the Courtesy B-Pipe, the Stillen gasket actually worked better at reducing vibrations.

Rear Exhaust Manifold Gasket 20691-38U00 $5.16 Gasket for rear exhaust manifold/Y-Pipe junction.

Front Y-Pipe Gasket 20691-51E01 $2.76 Gasket for front pre-cat/Y-Pipe junction.

Cat Gasket 20692-24U00 $3.43 Gasket for both input and output side of catalytic converter.

I just wanted to put this info out there. When I first did my 3.5 swap I did the fuel setup the way that others had done with the Tee. It satisfied the VQ35 engine by leaving it returnless, and also satisfied the car with the return line.

Ever since running higher boost, I have been battling a little bit of a lean condition at higher rpms in the higher gears. I have tried just about everything, turning the pressure up, added a boost-a-pump, SAFC adjustments, etc. Nothing would fully fix the problem. I thought I had it narrowed down the the fpr not rising 1:1 with boost, but I fixed that and I still had the problem.

I decided to remove the damper on the end of the fuel rail and make it return style and eliminate the tee from the system. Now the fuel has to pass through the fuel rail to be returned to the tank. This seems to have fixed my problem. I can be as rich as I want now at the upper rpms. I don’t know if it was a volume problem flowing through the tee, or if it was just the setup allowing fuel to be returned to the tank without ever seeing the engine. This could have been a problem if the fpr was acting up.

Here is a simple diagram showing before and after.
